Fall Season 2026 Kick-Off Party, CSA
After 3.5 inches of rain, our farm is renewed. And just in the nick of time too. The leaden September sky has been scrubbed clear of dust and pollen to reveal its bright blue underbelly. The cracked soil is soothed and suddenly dotted with green. Reminding us that the speed of resurrection in Central Texas is truly miraculous. With the misery of September behind us, we will now continue to sow and plant like mad until we reach the perfection of November. November in Austin is hard to beat. The best time for a wedding or picnic or annual over-the-top-free-event like the Texas Book Festival or Austin Studio Tour. Inspiration is everywhere thanks to creative people who let us snoop in their studios and literary people who present thousands of new books.
No surprise then that November is also when our farm hosts workshops like our annual wreath making and flower arranging classes and hosting partners like The Refugee Collective who will be teaching seedpaper making and ink block printing (see www.greengatefarm.net/events)
Speaking of events, please join us on Saturday, Oct. 10, 9-2 as we officially kick-off our Fall season with a party by the Big Red 1902 Bergstrom Barn. Farm Manager Matt (who is just back from his Voxtrot band touring Europe) and our university interns have pulled together a delightful day of live music (Livermore), tasty treats and fun. Best of all, you can meet some of the local farmers who are participating in our Central Texas Farmers Coop, which will deliver veggies, meat and goat dairy to our our farm for CSA members to pick-up on Wednesdays (2-8pm). At the party feel free to get to know your farmers by asking them how, what and why they do what they do. Don’t miss our beekeeper Troy who, in addition to offering honey samples, will share fascinating bee facts. We appreciate you telling your friends that they can sign up throughout the CSA season (it’s prorated until the CSA ends in January) and shares are available weekly or biweekly.
If Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a new concept for you, let me assure you that CSA is one of the most important ways to keep sustainable, local farmers in business. Not only does this direct support feed you the highest quality foods possible, it ensures that your community has green space and biodiversity. Green Gate began as a CSA farm in 2006 and it is only because of our members’ support that we have survived record-breaking drought, floods, and disappointments. Unlike farm stand sales that ebb and flow with the weather, CSA membership provides farmers with a reliable income throughout the season. This means our workers never miss a paycheck , and that you, come rain or shine, receive the highest quality foods, harvested by and for your community. Look forward to seeing you on the farm and answering more questions!
